UP Plans Special Pilgrimage Tour Covering Rameswaram, Madurai and Kanyakumari
Uttar Pradesh will launch a special pilgrimage tour to Rameswaram, Madurai and Kanyakumari, following directives from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The state Tourism Department is preparing a structured, safe and convenient travel programme to help devotees visit these major South Indian spiritual sites.
According to the Chief Minister, the tour will be coordinated by the state’s Tourism Department, which has been tasked with designing a comprehensive itinerary tailored specifically for pilgrims. Officials have been instructed to complete all logistical and administrative arrangements on time so that maximum participation can be encouraged. The programme will focus on providing seamless travel, reliable facilities and a structured schedule that allows devotees to experience the spiritual significance of each destination without inconvenience.
Rameswaram, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas; the ancient temple city of Madurai; and the coastal pilgrimage point of Kanyakumari collectively draw millions of worshippers every year. The Uttar Pradesh government aims to expand access to these southern religious landmarks by offering an organised travel plan that removes the challenges of long-distance pilgrimage.
The initiative underscores the state’s continued push to strengthen religious tourism and enhance cultural connectivity across regions. By extending such opportunities to its residents, the government hopes to make significant national pilgrimage circuits more accessible, fostering both spiritual engagement and broader interstate tourism links.
